Four community projects run the Switch 2 remake of Ocarina of Time. Two are for Windows PCs and two are for Apple silicon Macs. Checked 6 November 2026. These projects ship new builds several times a day, so read the release notes before you download.
→You need your own legally obtained copy of the game. None of these projects include games, keys or firmware, and this page links none of them either.
→The steps are copied from each project's own docs and release notes. Nobody has run them on our side, because that takes a copy of the game we don't have. Where a doc is silent, the step says so.
→Frame rates are early and vary by scene and machine. Lichii's release notes promise no universal gain, and the numbers on this page are reported by the projects or by press, with the source next to each one.
→Nothing here is affiliated with Nintendo. If a link below is dead, that project may have been taken down.

Routes 1 and 2 are emulators. NXNative describes itself as running the game's own code directly on the Apple chip with the Switch graphics rebuilt on Metal, and says it is not an emulator. Route 4 is a fork of NXNative.
02
Route 1: Lichii on Windows
For: anyone on a Windows PC who wants the original project. Lichii is a very experimental Switch and Switch 2 emulator.
Needs: Windows x64, the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable, and your own keys, firmware and game from your own console. Lichii's user docs (inherited from Eden) list all three as prerequisites. Games, keys and firmware are not included.
Steps, from the build-88 release notes, the Lichii README and the Eden quick start in its docs:
1. Download lichii-windows-x86_64.zip from the latest release.
2. Extract the whole archive, then run lichii.exe.
3. Tools, Install Decryption Keys, pick your key file.
4. Tools, Install Firmware, from folder or from ZIP.
5. Double-click the main window to add the folder with your games.
6. Emulation, Configure, Input to set your controller, then double-click the game.
Settings: build 88 turns on Dynamic FPS for Ocarina of Time by default (switch it off in the game's Add-Ons). The notes recommend CPU Clock set to Normal, because Boost or Overclock changes the timer that mod uses and can affect game speed. If you hit graphical issues, the notes say to use the MSVC zip, which is the file above.
Known issues: the build-88 title says AMD fixes will be in the next build. A shutdown race can leave the emulator waiting when you close it. Full gameplay timing has not been verified.
Windows is the only platform covered here. The same release also lists Linux and macOS (Apple silicon) packages. The step list above comes from Eden's generic quick start, so menu names may differ in Lichii. The docs do not describe Switch 2 specific key or firmware requirements.
For: Windows users who want the build tuned for this one game. It is a fork of Lichii. Frizti v2 was tested on an RTX 4080 with Ocarina of Time.
Needs: Windows x64. Your existing Lichii settings, keys, saves and games are used as they are, so set up route 1 first or bring the same files.
Steps, from the frizti-v2 release notes:
1. Download Lichii-Frizti-v2-Windows-x64.zip.
2. Unzip it anywhere and run Lichii-Frizti-v2\lichii.exe.
3. If Windows asks for the Visual C++ runtime, run vc_redist.x64.exe from the same folder first.
Do not download Source code (zip) or Source code (tar.gz). GitHub adds those on its own and they contain no emulator. The debug-symbols zip is only for reading crash dumps.
A fresh install starts on the emulator's defaults, which the notes say run this game slowly. Set these in Emulation, Configure (or right-click the game, Properties, for this game only):
Setting
Set to
GPU Mode
Fast (the notes call it the most important one)
Enable asynchronous shader compilation
On
Enable asynchronous presentation (Vulkan only)
On
Console Mode
Docked
NVDEC emulation
GPU Video Decoding
Memory Layout
8GB DRAM
Reported by the project: about 44 fps median in Kokiri Forest on an RTX 4080, up from about 37 to 40 before v2's changes. Max Resolution and Dynamic FPS are built in and on by default. Known issue: after the Kokiri Sword boulder area, the path toward the Deku Tree can turn heavily overexposed.
For: Mac users comfortable with Terminal. The game's own note says Mac only so far.
Needs, from the NXNative README: a Mac with macOS 26.6 or later, Xcode 27.2, Homebrew, and Python 3.12 or newer (an arm64 one, not an Intel Homebrew's). Free disk space of about twice the game's size plus 10 GB. The game note lists the Switch 2 game as one 25.6 GB NUP container.
The README says a Switch 2 game is built from one .nup file or a folder of its files, and that neither needs prod.keys. The game note covers update v131072.
Select Xcode 27.2 first:
sudo xcode-select -s /Applications/Xcode.app
With several Xcode versions installed, the README says to name this one Xcode-27.2.app and select it with sudo xcode-select -s /Applications/Xcode-27.2.app.

Route 3: install the tools
Once only, in Terminal. This block is verbatim from the NXNative README:
Replace the path with your own .nup file. This is the README's command for Switch 2 games on Mac. The game's own note lists no Ocarina of Time specific command. The README says the first build takes a while, and that the app is then opened from Finder.
From the game note: the first start with a window runs a pipeline prebuild (691 s on its test Mac), and the opening movie cannot be skipped (about 8 minutes on a new file). It reports about 59 fps through Kokiri Forest, measured on an M6 Mac with 16 GB.
For: Mac users who want the fork built for this game. It is a fork of NXNative. Its V3 release is a pre-release with source only, and it is built from your own v1 dump: the base game plus update v131072. The doc says other updates are untested.
The dump folder holds base/exefs, base/romfs, updates/131072/exefs and updates/131072/romfs. A .nup of the same files works too.
Keys: the fork's doc says an unpacked dump needs no prod.keys for a Switch 2 game, which matches the NXNative README. One press article says keys are required. The two project docs agree with each other, so follow them. Treat it as unconfirmed until someone runs it.
08
Route 4: requirements and variables
Needs, from the fork's doc: an Apple silicon Mac on macOS 26.6 or later with Xcode 27.2, Homebrew tools (xcodegen, zstd, the .NET SDK 10, Python), and about 80 GB for the build folder. The doc built with Homebrew's Python 3.15. With Python 3.12 or 3.13 the script also needs backports.zstd. The doc tested on a fanless MacBook Air M5 with 16 GB.
Install zbic (pinned) and set the variables, using your own dump folder. Run everything from the repository's root (clone https://github.com/cheemu21/kid-with-sword-remake first):
Three stages from the doc, in order. The first extracts the game (a 26.2 GB RomFS image), builds the shaders and prints the command that runs it. The doc says the full shader build is the long part of a first run. The second writes the resolution files (handheld 1280 x 720, docked 1951 x 1098). Without them the game renders at its own dynamic resolution. The third builds the double-clickable app.
The app opens a settings window first: Console mode (Handheld or Docked) and Frame rate (30 or 60). Saves go to ~/Library/Application Support/nxnative/0400486024DEC000/ and the log to ~/Library/Logs/nxnative/0400486024DEC000.log. Known issues in the doc: one stall of about 0.9 s, one shader of 42,854 that fails to translate, and memory that can climb to about 10 GB on some area changes. Without the 720p file the doc measured 43 to 52 fps in Kokiri Forest. Do not run the game while a build is running.
